Wow - that was a great edition Sharon! There was loads in it to read, suggested places to go, things to do - I've got half the corners turned down of all the things I want to follow up on now!!! Well done!!

Wedding Fayre Opportunities

Hi girls,

Just an update on some Wedding Fayre opportunities for you!

You know Louise is running a Wedding Fayre on Sunday 7th march 2010 in The Glynhill Hotel in Renrewshire. If you haven't yet snapped up a table, please do so quickly as categories are filling up fast.

There are also lots of other advertising opportunities available if you don't want to exibit but might want to place an ad for your business in the Wedding Fayre brochure.

It will be a sensational Wedding Fayre - because Louise is running it, you know us teachers and our military organisation!

Second Wedding Fayre news is about a Fayre in Oran Mor on Sunday 31st January in aid of the Myasenthia Association, from 11am - 4pm which most of you know about by now. More details of this one can be found at www.events.myastheniagravis.co.uk/weddingfayre. Although this has almost sold out, there are a few spaces left if you wish to take up the opportunity.

I'll keep you updated on the other ones as we confirm details!!

About Ali - Plans and Presents.

Thanks for the invitation to join you. It is great to be able to speak to group of mums in business that go through the same ups and downs as myself.
My name is Alison Tinlin and I live on the south side of Glasgow with my husband, Neill and my two kids, Kathryn, 4 and Leo, 22months.
I was a nurse in medical admissions for 14 years before having to give it up due to childcare issues.
I started my Wedding and Event Planning business, Plans and Presents http://www.plansandpresents.co.uk in April this year after pre planning and researching for a few years and then getting some practical experience.
My job is to work with my clients to create the vision they have of their special day or event and I offer several services from initial supplier and venue searches through to on the day management and of course the full co-ordination option.
I look forward to meeting you all.

Our 2nd Meet

We had our second meet last night in Oran Mor. It was the first time I have been there - very nice.
We had 8 mums & mums to be there.
Elaine( Ready Steady Go), Myself (Wedding and Baby & Charming Angels), Sharon (Raring2go),
Mundeep ( Partylite), Lesley (face painting by lesley), Mareike (Mareike Murray photography), Libby ( Bare Knees), M.T (Glasgowgirlsweddingguide).

We spoke about useful contacts like http://bgateway.com/ ( business advice) http://www.google.com/analytics/ ( website tracker) and http://www.alocalprinter.com/ (flyer printing).

Sharon had asked me a while back if at one of the meetings we could give her feeback on her magazine - so if it is ok with everyone else we could maybe do that at the next meet. The fact that we asked Sharon if she had brought her new copy - says it all really! Tired or not I, read it when I got to bed last night.

Mundeep brought some of her partylite candle sample smells with her - so that was great and we all had a sniff. The other people in the bar must have thought we were nuts!

A few of the are mums doing fairs between now and our next meet in Feb 2010 - GOOD LUCK.

We all left (sober!) clutching our Business Mums journal and the business cards of everyones business.

About M.T - Glasgow girls wedding guide

"I run The Glasgow Girls Wedding Guide which is an ideas, information and inspirational site for Glasgow Brides planning their Wedding, with a full list of local Wedding Suppliers! The idea behind the site was to allow local Brides to find local Suppliers as most of the UK Wedding Planning sites are very English-based and do not feature many Scottish Wedding Service Suppliers! It has grown however, into a site full of ideas, advice and Chat about all things Wedding!
I am mum to a son of almost 4 and a daughter of almost 2! In my former life I was a Principal Teacher of a High School of just under 2000 pupils so this is a bit of a change! I still do a bit of tutoring and also run an Usborne Children's Books business!'"

Business Mums in our Network

We have a quite a few business mums in our network from all different types of business fields. So to keep you posted of members and who is who we plan to update you with a little blurb on each of the members.

So who is behind the running of the West of Scotland Business Mums Network?
There are two of us Elaine Hart and Louise Graham. Elaine is the one who did all the phoning and organising of our first meet in Oct at the Beanscene, she has also been in touch by email to many of our members. Elaine runs Ready Steady Go Childminding in Paisley as her full time business and can be contacted at tweetypieelaine@hotmail.co.uk. She has 2 children Ryan & Erin, aged 12 & 2.

Louise is currently a full time teacher of Design & Technology as well as running 2 businesses! Louise does all the PR and website based work as well as contacting members via email. Who are the members?

Kirstin at www.fingerprint-jewellery.co.uk/paisley

Sharon at www.raringto2go.co.uk/

Mareike at www.mariekemurray.com/
I am Mareike Murray, originally from Germany but have been living in Scotland for 6 years now, just outside Glasgow in Uddingston with my husband Gary. I am mother to a 23 week old bump – due in March 2010! I am working full time as a research manager (due to go on maternity leave at the end of January) and also have a photography business which is still in the early stages but which I am very excited about. I am specialising in wedding photography and lifestyle portraiture on location (i.e. I am not using studio equipment). My style is modern, elegant, relaxed - a combination of carefully set up poses and photojournalism. I aim to show the true personality of the people I’m photographing and think the key is a great relationship with the clients and the ability to make them laugh!

Libby at www.bareknees.co.uk/
My name is Libby Young. I live just north of Glasgow with my husband, 2 year old Struan, and 6 month old Angus. I am a solicitor, currently on maternity leave, but have also set up a kilt making business, and will soon have to make the decision about whether to return to employment or not. Bare Knees is my business, and I make hand sewn, bespoke kilts for adults, children and babies. I sell full kilt outfits for adults, and sell or hire full kilt packages for children and babies. As a kilt outfit is a large expense for a customer, I aim to make it as easy and relaxed an experience as possible. If the customer is within Central Scotland, I will travel to them for fittings etc. I make alternative arrangements for customers who are further afield. Each kilt is specifically tailored to the individual customer, and this includes advice on tartan, and accessories. I work with other Scottish craftspeople to ensure that my customers have a wide range of high quality accessories to choose from.I am also happy to tackle more unusual projects, with my most recent being a set of three pink kilts for a breast cancer charity event in Hong Kong.

Discount on Royal Concert Hall Xmas Fair

Christmas Fair_The Christmas Fair is held in the Royal Concert Halls on the 19-20th of December, the final weekend before Christmas, and is expected to be one of the most lucrative consumer fairs in the trading calendar. It is the perfect opportunity for businesses to break into and exploit the Glasgow Christmas market. Stalls are going quickly, but there is still time to book a place. Marketing efforts are underway, and we are expecting a footfall in the region of 15000-20000 visitors over the weekend. Our PR campaign is as follows: Tickets are free to the public. A team of specialist PR staff will be flyering to Christmas shoppers throughout the weekend, and in the weeks leading up to the fair. We will distribute over 20,000 complimenary tickets. Posters and Banners throughout Glasgow, especially in shopping hotspots. Online marketing through promotional websites, social networking sites and targeted email campaigns. Newspaper and radio advertising. PR campaign to get the fair in newspaper print. There is also a Christmas matinee concert in the main auditorium on the Saturday, and the 2000 strong audience will be passing through the fair before and after the concert. This guarantees a footfall of 2000 people before we have even started advertising! Please have a look at the website for the fair http://www.scotlandschristmasfair.co.uk/.
Libby at @bareknees.co.uk booked a stall for her business, and as an incentive to get the final few places booked, the organisers have offered a 'Refer a Friend' reward scheme. If you are interested in having a stall, you should contact Josh Littlejohn on j.littlejohn@capital-events.co.uk (m:07525 370933) and mention to him that you were referred by Libby Young (Stall 61), both you and I get 10% off the stall price.

Christmas Fair

Just had an email about a Xmas fair, if any mum's are looking for a stall to sell their products at.

Hi,I would just like to invite you to take part in a Christmas Shopping arranged to raise money for the residents fund at Greencross care home. It is on Friday 4th of December, 7.00pm - 9.30pm, at St Brides Parish church
21 Greenlees Road
Cambuslang
Glasgow
G72 8JB
Last year we held the night within the home and were unaware of how successful it was going to be as it attracted hundreds of shoppers. This year we have hired a much bigger venue and are looking for more sellers to take advantage of the large numbers of people who attend.Everyone of the sellers from last year are attending and were extremely happy with the sales they made and home parties that were arranged during the event. So take advantage of showcasing your products to a whole new market of customers.Stalls cost £15 and we ask for a donation for the raffle but this is not compulsory. Please feel free to get in touch for more information or to book a stall. Ican be contacted using this email address ashley_callaghan@live.co.uk or by phoning 01416411266 mon-fri 9am-5pm
Ashley Callaghan

Hope this help some of you.
